I'm Part of Bury in Bloom 2008

NEW GREEN FINGERS and Young Green Fingers

Last year Bury St Edmunds  was named 'Best Large Town'  in the United Kingdom at the Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom awards. To achieve this accolade the Britain in Bloom judges not only viewed the Abbey Gardens and the town centre but also people's front gardens, local allotments and community projects - such as schools.

 

It is to encourage participation in these areas that the Bury in Bloom Green Fingers competition exists.

Here is what you need to do

Have a look at the 3 sections under here and decide which categories you want to enter. You can enter as many as you like. The competition is free - thanks to our generous sponsors. Fill in the form you may have already, or you you can download one here:  DOWNLOAD FORM.

Once you have filled the form in please return it to the Bury in Bloom GREEN FINGERS competition at

19 Northgate Street, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 1HP 

as soon as possible but no later that June 2nd.

The judges will be touring the area from the 7th July to 18th July.

 

 
 
   

 

 

 

   
   
 
 
 

At Home

1   Front Garden - permanent planting

(Gardens with permanent living features, such as shrubs, trees, climbers, herbaceous plants)

2   Front Garden- summer planting

( Gardens displaying mainly annual plants for summer colour)

3  Hanging Basket/ window box / free standing planter

(If you would like to enter these separately)

4 Insect and Bird-Friendly Front and/or Back Garden

(Please note the judges will need to contact you to arrange a visit)

 

 
     
 

At Work

5   Town centre business premises frontage

(Professional shops, services (hairdressers, opticians etc) )

6    Out of town centre business premises frontage

(Professional shops,car dealerships. public transport providers etc) 

7  Hotel/Guest House/Public House Restaurant/Café frontage

People's Projects

8 Allotment Area (Group or Individual)

9 Residential home: do residents and visitors have an outdoor setting to enjoy?

 

10 Neighbourhood/Street: Does your street sparkle?

 

( Perhaps a group of residents or a few local neighbours or even one individual has done something to improve their immediate surroundings. Judges will be looking for ongoing improvements and commitment - not necessarily a complete project.)

 

11 Improving the Natural Environment (group project)

 

( Cheering up forgotten flowerbeds, neglected pathways, overgrown alleys. or taking part in a larger project for regeneration. Again - judges will be looking for improvements and commitment - not necessarily perfection! )
